ABOUT BROWNCHICKEN BROWNCOW STRINGBAND
BrownChicken BrownCow StringBand has its roots in the mountains of West Virginia. Since this band was formed four years ago, they have shared their music with enthusiastic audiences in almost every State in the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. This talented group of performers are all singers, musicians and songwriters: Xander Hitzig (fiddle, guitar, tenor banjo), Justin Morris (guitar, bass, banjo), Orion Hitzig (mandolin, fiddle) Matt Del Olmo (banjo, bass, guitar) and Katharine Wray (harmonica, guitar, bass, bodhran).
Their shows are made up mostly of original music with classic bluegrass covers and historic Appalachian melodies. Their genre is hard to nail down as they comfortably cross over between bluegrass, old-style country, gypsy-jazz, Irish and folk. The venues they have appeared in are as varied as the music they play, everything from big City cabarets to down home country fairs and are known for their strong harmonies and professional mastery of many instruments. This close-knit “family”are proud to include in their memory box sharing the billing with some of the major music groups around today.
Although their formation started in their home state of West Virginia, the band solidified their sound and direction in 2009 while appearing in Maui, Hawaii. They stayed on in Maui for nine months experimenting and reworking their music until the band’s core as it exists today, became rock solid. The fan base that started in West Virginia, expanded in Hawaii and continues to grow at a steady pace since then with each appearance across the country. The band has released three albums, putting on full display the excitement and musicality of this bold, young group from the banks of the Greenbrier River in West Virginia on its way to you.
The 2012 year has been very kind to these road warriers with a successful trip to Alaska and over 30 states covered since January. This fall, the band will travel the length of California with their "Flying High" tour and then gear up to release their brand new album and head back to the homeland of Maui, Hawaii. Keep your eyes and ears open for the BrownChicken Train, because they are coming to your town down the line.
